Description: Graphic organizers encompass a variety of note-taking formats that show relationships among ideas. Examples: KWL—A four-column chart that helps students identify what they already know about a topic, what they think they know about a topic, what they would like to learn about the topic. Venn Diagram—A two-circle diagram that shows how subjects are different. Details about how subjects are similar are shown in the overlapping part of the circles. Bubble Chart - A great method for brainstorming everything known about a topic, particularly before writing. When to Use the Strategy: Before, during, and after reading. Before (pre-writing) and during writing. Targeted Skills: To develop or assist comprehension, to classify ideas, to organize and structure writing, to help in problem solving, decision making and planning.
